Natural Calamity or Unlearnt Lesson

Two of the major incidents that have occurred in the world are the “Step down of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi” and the “Nuclear Meltdown in Japan”. Both the incidents are related to “Energy”, which points out how Energy is important for a country to maintain its position as a developed nation.

Both the incidents are related to Energy in a unique way- the “Step down of Libyan Leader” was not a sudden process of departing but rather a well organized political thinking of USA to get a hold on Oil Raw Material to establish itself a powerful Country. The second important incident “Nuclear Meltdown in Japan” which is looked upon as a natural calamity and which managed to garner sympathy from the world around, is set as an example towards “safety technology usage”. But is this about improving the safety issues today to avoid future calamities or could the “nuclear meltdown “be avoided had the Japanese Authorities and Nuclear personnel been aware of the safety issues to be adopted after the Chernobyl Nuclear Blast 25 years ago…
Greenpeace has predicted that Chernobyl may ultimately cause some 2,70,000 cancer cases, more than 90,000 of which could be fatal. Russian biologists concluded that some 9,85,000 people have already died, mainly because of cancer, till 2004. Now, just compare this data with the official data from the Ukraine’s Health Ministry which stated 5,30,000 death due to radiation effect in the former Soviet State between 1987 and 2004.
A total of 350 incidents of radiation leakages happened in the world prior to Chernobyl but there wasn’t any lesson learnt, no model procedures were devised for dealing with the Fukushima type disasters, no initiative of any sort was taken. They were still not aware of how to deal with the stricken Fukushima reactors, whether water, sand or concrete was required to control the damage. Unlearnt lesson of Chernobyl played an evil role in Fukushima.
The agreement between International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and World Health Organization (WHO) was to unreveal the actual facts to the people। They went a step ahead to neutralize the “panic alarm”, making false proclamation that the Chernobyl and the Fukushima incidents were under control and that safety measures would be improved henceforth. This as you can see is a major example of “LESSON UNLEARNT”. Even after the Fukushima accident being awarded the top level 7 nuclear disaster rating, the same as Chernobyl, the IAEA continued to claim that Japanese accident was no match for the Soviet Reactor Disaster.

Therefore, it is necessary to improve international safety standards in the nuclear power industry and ensure full transparency regarding the immediate and the after effects of radiation. The IAEA’s agreement with the WHO and other U.N. agencies must be annulled so we can honestly and objectively analyze the damages caused by radiation to man and the environment as a whole, not only in a short term period but also in a medium and long term perspective. The IAEA status must be changed.
At present many of countries have nuclear weapons for defense purpose; we pray to God that these weapons should not be used for any war purpose or against humankind। Now one of the important question regarding all nuclear weapons and our defense system that “Is it true that we are not getting attacked by nuclear weapons…?” No, we all are victim of the nuclear attacks in form of Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Chernobyl blast, Fukushima Nuclear Meltdown because of our unlearnt lesson and not because of Natural Calamity…….!!!!
